BEIRUT:
Israeli forces fired tear gas Thursday on protesting Palestinians in
the village of Bilin near Ramallah, according to Maan news agency, as West Bank demonstrations grow over the ongoing Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.
“Israeli forces fired tear-gas grenades, rubber-coated steel bullets, and stun grenades at demonstrators, who rallied against the Israeli "massacre" in the Gaza Strip,” Maan said.
Two Palestinians were shot dead and dozens injured during the solidarity marches over the last week in the occupied West Bank. Four Palestinians were detained Wednesday in Abu Dis near occupied Jerusalem during clashes with the Israeli forces.
A spokesperson for the local popular committee Hani Halabiyeh said that "the Israeli forces detained Ali Rabee Halabiyeh, 13, Muhannad Zaarur, and Abed Ayyad" during the Abu Dis clashes, along with another unidentified youth. He also said that many of the demonstrators suffered from tear gas inhalation, one Palestinian was hit by live fire in the foot and another was wounded by a rubber-coated steel bullet.
Maan also reported clashes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, with water cannons and tear gas being used by Israeli forces to disperse demonstrators.
In a speech Wednesday night, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Palestinians to extend their armed resistance to the West Bank.
